RADIO WITH A PURPOSE

Carers are of all ages and from all backgrounds - people looking after the physical, social, emotional and spiritual needs of a friend or relative. Throughout May 1996 Care Radio broadcast its award winning community news and information service to an audience of over 370,000 in North West Surrey (to the west of London).
The aim of Care Radio is to provide information and advice to carers in the community 24 hours a day during the period of its broadcasting licence. The station is organised run and staffed by unpaid volunteers many who give up their holidays to be part of the project. Funding comes from supportive advertisers and the generosity of donors. All services including those of the guests who appear are given freely and last year Care Radio interviewed over 300 such guests who contributed to the wealth of valuable, interesting and entertaining material broadcast.
In May 1996 Care Radio was unique in being the first ever such station in the United Kingdom and set the standard for others to follow.
MESSAGE FOR THE DAY Care Radio features the Message for The Day, transmitted twice daily, as part of its commitment to religious broadcasting. These Christian broadcasts come from members of many denominations. In 1996 the Bishop of Guidford (Anglican) broadcast the opening and closing messages and twelve other contributors provided material.

CARE RADIO 1997

The station returns on 5th May 1997 on the AM waveband with 24 hour a day broadcasting until midnight on 1st June an event greatly anticipated by all the volunteer staff, technicians and presenters as well as the vast audience of carers for which Care Radio is a lifeline.
