The SCM of Nigeria was founded by late Dr. Akanu Ibiam in 1940.We are in bout six hundred (600) secondry schools and forty (40) Tertiary institutions spread across Nigeria The Student Christian Movement is dynamic Interdenominational Ecumenical, non-government organisation (An NGO) non-profit making and registered student Christian Organisation with the Ministry of internal affairs in Nigeria. The SCM is local expression of the (WSCF) World Student Christian Federation based in Geneva, African regional office is in Nairobi Kenya, it has consultative desk at the United Nations of Youths, contributing her quota to the upliftment of the course of youths nd students yearly.The SCM is in more than one hundred countries of the World.Nigeria.Organisation whose primary aim is to reach out to the youths in the student's world (Tertiary institution and secondary Schools). Our constituencies are youths and students who reach out to other youths and students in our society.The SCM of Nigeria is registered with the Ministry of youth and sports and also with the In Lagos alone we are in three (3) Tertiary Institutions, which includes the University of Lagos(UNILAG). Federal College Education Technical, Akoka, Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH) and in Nine (9) secondary schools it includes CMS grammar school, and Methodist Boy's High School (v/Island).With township fellowship clled the Christin movement fellowship (CMF) for secondry school graduates and youths who are yet to get admission into higher institution of learning. Also we reach out to schools in Ogun State and the refugee camp at ORU western nigeria.WHAT WE DO AND OUR PROGRAMMES: The SCM believes in reaching the total man Spiritually, Physically, Socially and Emotionally through her Ecumenical nature. To this end we organize activities at all levels (campuses and secondary schools), which includes.· Students/Conference for tertiary institutions and senior secondary schools.· Academic Seminars.· Motivational talks.· Leadership Trainings.· Skill acquisition and development programme.· Scholarship programme· Tutorial classes.· Guidiance and counselling programme · Free books distribution programme· Community/School development support project.· Campaign against drug abuse, Sexual abuse of Women and Children cultism, (campign rally) · Talk show programme · Campign against spraed of HIV/AIDS infections, etc.through publications.God helping us, these amongst others are what we have been doing in the student world (schools and campuses) and wishes to continue to do so. AIMS/ VISION· Bring Christian students youths together into fellowship with one another in mutual service· Assist the youths/students to achieve their positive goals and discouraging the negative goals· Assist the Christian students/youths to remain focus in life.· To give free proper/godly guidiance and counseling service.· To meet the needs of the Christian youths/students.· To train and build up students/youths leaders· To meet the spiritual, Physical, academical, social and Emotional needs of students/youths (in our society)· To reduce, if possible eradicate moral decay in our society.· To discourage (Idleness), youths idleness in the society nd encourage youth usefulness/ particiption in the growth of the economy through our programme· To act as facilitator/motivator of Academic and moral excellence of the students/youths. · To reduce the rate of HIV/AIDS spread through campaigns and rallies and seminars.· To assist students/youths who came from the poor home.· To act as a positive model to students/youths.· To work together with school authorities to achieve the primry goal of the School. OUR NATURE. OUR UNIQUENESS THE ECUMENICAL SCM.Ecumenism, like any authentic dialogical process, required faith; not only in God, but faith in other human beings. We have to trust ourselves to each other and start to see ourselves in the others in order even to begin that genuine or encounter.Christian students of various cultures and traditions from throughout the world came to meet and get to know each other through events and activities if the world student Christian federation (W.S.C.F.).Culled from Annual (W.S.C.F) Europe region. ECUMENISM AS PRACTISTED IN THE SCM The SCM of Nigeria branches/constituency have continually shifted between the core conservative believes setup nd the core - liberal believes setup but we still remain SCM and we distinguished ourselves through the following:-· Our inter-denomintionalism · Our enormous diversity · Our inter racial set-up· Our level of assocition/accommodtion of the religion/sects.· Our globalisation.· Our believe in the one Catholic Church. And we will continue this ecumenism acts, to be different and distinct. Through carrying out (doing) the following 1. By being socially aware and concerned all the time.2. By being ethnically enlightened nd sound.3. By being theologically sound.4. Using our theology in secular mannerisms.5. Breeding plain clothes Christians to be active in the society and church.6. By being vehicle for preparation for secular life for students in institution of learning.7. By being anything except be holy club.8. Continually remaining the handmaid of the church.
