Jesus gave the Apostle, Prophet, Evangelist, Pastor, and teacher for the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ: Til we all come to the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ: That we henseforth be no more children tossed to and fro, and carried about by every wind of doctrine, by the slight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive; but speaking the truth in love, may grow up into him in all things, which is the head, even Christ: From whom the whole body fitly joined together and compacted by that which every joint supplieth, according to the effectual working in the measure of every part, maketh increase of the body unto edifying of itself in love. Ephsians 4 : 11 - 16
Jesus wants his body, the church, to grow up, and be no more children. The body of Christ will grow up as we all find out our function and purpose. Jesus gave the ministry gifts to edify the body and show it how to grow up. Ministry can be spiritually mature, but the body may not be. Jesus wants the whole body to come to maturity. Jesus wants us all to be taught by the Holy Spirit. Jesus wants his body to know his word, so they can know Jesus. Jesus is the word.
As the body of Christ grows up, it will know how to recieve from God, and how to impart to the rest of the body, so it may be edified. It is easy for laity to depend on ministry to hear from God,and tell them God's will for their life. It is very easy for ministry to keep laity children, and dependent on them. Jesus wants ministry and laity to depend on him. As long as we are children we will not know God's voice for ourselves, we will not study God's word for ourselves, we will not know how to allow the Holy Spirit to teach us.
Our purpose and vision as ministry is to assist the laity to grow up that they may know how to do the work of the ministry. To give an example of how we have not allowed the body to grow: we hold revivals, we ask the members to invite people in their community to come hear some good preaching, and get revived. Evangelist is given to the body to train them to go out and preach the gospel to the world, and bring them to Christ. Evangelist is to train laity how to lead someone to Christ. We want to evangelize our world. Those in the world that never comes to the church, will have the church taken to them.
We are in the school of the spirit, learning how to live in the spirit, all the time. NOW, we are looking at the end-time harvest. We are to train laity to plant the seed of God's word into the lives and water it with prayer. One plants, another waters, but God gives the increase. If we are to have an end-time harvest, we must plant the seed, (no seed, no crop) Jesus said to GO and make disciples of all men, teaching them to observe and do all I commanded you to do. As ministry we train people how to pray, how to do spiritual warfare, how to praise, how to worship, and last but not least how to study God's word, how to build their faith, how to walk in the anointing, and then, take God's power to our world. We will make a difference
