Post Graduate Theological Education

The historic Serampore College started by William Carey (the father of Modern Missionary Movement and the founder of the Baptist Missionary Society at the end of eithteenth century) and the Bishop's College of Calcutta started in 1820 by the Anglican Church are the co-sponsors of this North India Institute of Post Graduate Theological Studies (NIIPGTS). It offers a two year course leading to a Master of Theology Degree in the fields of New Testament, Christian Theology, Religions and Missiology at present. It also offers research studies leading to a Doctor of Theology Degree in the areas of Christian Theology and Religions. NIIPGTS is affiliated to the Senate of Serampore College.
The aim of the program is to train future teachers for the theological colleges of India, with particular focus on the North and North East Indian Churches and Missions. Men and women students from all denominations who have secured a Bachelor of Divinity Degree are eligible for admission. Qualified teachers and professors from both Serampore and Bishop's Colleges team up and teach the courses.

Urgent Needs... Teachers and Funds

We welcome visiting teachers and full time teachers who are qualified at doctoral level in the areas of Christian Theology, New Testament, Religions and Missiology.
Since most of our students come from poor and hard contexts, we provide them with financial scholarships. Our resources are extremely limited and hence we invite churches and missions to become our partners and to provide funds in our scholarship account. Your generosity will enable us to train another teacher to go and train further harvesters and pastors for the large fields of India. Contact for further information.
