Bringing light to Rockey Street.
MISSION We are a non profit, Christian ministry based in Rockey street staffed and run by born again, Spirit filled and led individuals from different churches who have been placed here by the Lord to carry out His plan for this area. We believe that the Gospel of Jesus Christ is the answer to every problem and is the only power able to transform lives. The focus of this ministry is the Rockey Street community and the many addicts, destitute and needy people found here. We act in obedience to the command of Jesus in Mark 16 Vs 15 to 20, to preach the Gospel to all people trusting in the promise of signs and wonders to follow. Vision · Constantly growing ministry of rehabilitation centres and shelters for the homeless and needy away from the temptations of Rocky Street. (Is 54) · To set those in darkness free so that they will never turn back to their old lives (Is 61) · Always be able to clothe and feed the needy in a generous manner (Mt. 25 Vs 24 - 40) · Provide a venue of excellence for Christian musicians to minister on a regular basis. · Centre for different churches to flock to in order to work together for the Kingdom of God in Rockey Street. · A sanctuary and place of refuge on Rockey Street, open when most needed. · Providing Christian Council to those in need for at least 12 hours of each day.
Ministry Premises
The ministry is run by Les and Lynne Spencer and is situated on the corner of Rockey and Raymond Streets in Bellevue East, Johannesburg, Gauteng, South Africa. The main entrance being at No. 22 Rocky street (Cnr Raymond and Rocky) The ministry includes a coffee bar and an upstairs venue for Christian Musicians and Christian Drama, with the emphasis on outreach. The entrance at No. 8 Raymond Street and the Rockey St. frontage is adorned with our rallying cry "Beauty for Ashes" (Is. 61) as this is what God has promised to bring about in this area. Beauty for the ashes of broken lives. This corner is South Africa's most infamous spot for the dealing of drugs, which takes place openly and at all hours of the day and night. We have a vision similar to Jackie Pullinger's and Floyd Mc Clung's and employ Street drama, Music, and a pleasant cofee shop atmosphere to draw people to the ministry premises. We are a non profit ministry and rely on gifts from the body of Christ at large for sustaining the ministry.
