Bio:
Richard A. Henderson was born on March 8, 1971, in Aliquippa, Pa., the son of the late John W. Henderson and Daphne Henderson Belle. Richard attended Aliquippa School Systems and graduated in 1989. He later attended the Community College of Beaver County, University of Penn State, Beaver Campus, University of Duquesne, Pittsburgh Theological Seminary, and Geneva College Graduate majoring in Human Resource Management and earning a Bachelor of Science.
Richard grew up attending church at the Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church in Logstown, Aliquippa, where it was founded by his uncle, Rev. Isaac Steals. Later, Richard attended the Church in the Round COGIC in Aliquippa, under the leadership of Bishop Melvin E. Clark. When Richard was younger and spent a portion of his life living in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, with his mother and stepfather, he was a part of the Faith Church of Christ Written in Heaven in 1981 and the late Bishop T. Pollar always said to Richard, “Son, you are going to make it”. Years later, before his Death, Richard shared the pulpit with his mentor, Bishop T. Pollar, and would later make several trips to Philadelphia to preach at Bishop A. Pollar’s church in West Philadelphia.
In 1991, Richard answered the call from God to the ministry and was ordained and licensed as a minister at the House of the Lord Pentecostal Church in Brooklyn, New York, in 1993 under the leadership of Rev. Dr. Hebert Daughtry. In 1998, Richard acknowledged the voice of God to go to Maryland to do ministry, and he ventured to Maryland to do the work of the Lord. In 1999, Richard resigned from the House of the Lord Church and was ordained and licensed with the Church of God in Christ following becoming a member of The True Fellowship Church of God in Christ, then under the leadership of the late Elder Winston Jones.
In 2003, Richard became the founder and Pastor of The Faith Temple Christian Fellowship Church, where this ministry is still active in Maryland, focusing on the needs of the many outside the sanctuary walls. Later, Richard was asked to Pastor of Christ Temple Church on Pennsylvania Avenue in West Baltimore. Richard has worked with 3 ministries in Africa. In 2007, Richard’s father, whom he had never met face to face, passed away in Pasadena, California, and while helping to eulogize his father, he was given his father’s bible, and inside was his father’s Baptist Minister’s License.
Richard has received numerous awards from the Mayor’s Office, State of Maryland, U.S. Senate, Baltimore City State's Attorney’s Office, Community awards for being the clergy and community leader of the year, a Certified Counter Anti-Terrorist Trainer, and many other awards and training certificates.
Richard has worked with youth in mental institutions for approximately 5 years in Maryland and Pennsylvania and has worked at the Baltimore City Police and the Mayor’s Office of Criminal Justice for 3 years through a community safety grant through the Governor’s Office of Crime Control and Prevention and has worked as a Director of Community Resource Coordination for the Druid Heights Community Development Corporation for 7 years.
Richard has worked as a Project Coordinator for the last 6 years and 3 years as the Project Director for the East Baltimore Drug-Free Coalition, which is a Chapter of the National African American Drug Policy Coalition, Inc., under the leadership of Judge Arthur Burnett. Richard also works with the homeless in Harford County. Richard is also the former Acting Chairman for the Baltimore Chapter of the National African American Drug Policy Coalition, which is being rejuvenated. Richard is also the former board President for the youth program in Northeast Baltimore, New Beginnings Academy, with Catherine Trotter-Rayner, and a former Board member for Register of Wills Derek Hopkins of Harford County, the CHAR Program. Richard is a member of the National Faith-Based Prevention Alliance, which is a national group of clergy and service providers.
Richard also comes from a family of musical talent where his two uncles, Mervin and Melvin Steals, wrote the hit song for The Spinners, Could It Be I'm Falling in Love. Richard has a musical background as well, where he writes music and plays three different instruments.
Finally, Richard is a very well-known community activist of over 15 years, and he has worked in different parts of the City of Baltimore.
