AN INTRODUCTION TO CHRIST COMMUNITY CHURCH
Christ Community Church is an independent congregation which was chartered June 4, 1995. CCC is autonomous in that we are not part of any organized denomination. However, we are part of the Christian Churches / Churches of Christ, a brotherhood of like minded churches spread worldwide.
Our church meets at 2121 E. Dakota in Pierre, South Dakota. Our church family includes people of all ages and backgrounds. Anyone is welcome to come and worship with us.
Membership in Christ Community Church is open to any person who has made a public confession that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of the Living God, and who has been baptized by immersion in water. The Scriptures speak of confession in Romans 10:9, "...if you confess with your mouth, 'Jesus is Lord,' and believe in your heart...you will be saved."(NIV). Acts 2:38 says concerning baptism, "Repent and be baptized every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of sins."(NIV).
Christ Community Church offers the Lord's Supper each Sunday. It is an open celebration which any believer in Jesus Christ may participate. Scripture says concerning the Lord's Supper, "A man ought to examine himself before he eats of the bread and drinks of the cup. For anyone who eats and drinks without recognizing the body of the Lord eats and drinks judgment on himself."(I Corinthians 11:28&29 NIV). Our church merely offers the elements, it is up to the individual participant to truly commune with the Lord.
ABOUT OUR PASTOR AND HIS FAMILY
Brother Jerry Oberg came to our church family and the Pierre community in July of 1997. He previously served churches in Iowa, Oklahoma, and Arkansas. He holds a Bachelor's Degree from Ozark Christian College of Joplin, Missiouri, and a Master's Degree from the Tyndale Theological Seminary of Fort Worth, Texas. He is currently enrolled in the Doctoral program at Tyndale.
Jerry is joined in Pierre by his wife Danette. She brings to the church a background in music having played the piano, flute, and guitar for may years. She has also conducted both church and community choirs of various sizes, and has written and arranged music for herself and these groups. She is emplyed by a Pierre legal firm.
The Oberg's have one child, Katie. She is a student at Riggs High School in Pierre where she enjoys the choral music program.
