On January 20, 1998, the Barren Run United Methodist Church was destroyed by arson. The 115-year old building was reduced to little more than ashes and rubble.
Damage was estimated at $350,000. Through the generous donations of God's children, the rebuilding process has begun.
While waiting for the rebirth of our new house of worship, services are currently being held in the defunct Barren Run Elementary School, across the road from the site of the original church.
Barren Run is just one of three United Methodist churches in the Smithton Charge.
Barren Run shares in services with the members of our sister churches: Banning UMC (Dawson, PA) and Winnett UMC (Smithton, PA.)
