For the past nineteen years, Supt. and Sis. Johnson have worked to spread the news about the goodness of Jesus. In 1982, the Lord required that Min. Johnson, as he was known then, go abroad and do His work. From the little schoolhouse on the hill, Min. Johnson started Vernon Mission Church of God in Christ. At that time, there were only two members...Min. Johnson and his guitar. After months of praying and fasting, Min. Johnson saw results... members began to come. His work had not gone in vain. Soon after, the little schoolhouse was too small, and Min. Johnson became Eld. Johnson. After the purchase of another building in 1985, Vernon Mission COGIC became New Zion COGIC. In the following eleven years, Eld. Johnson served in the capacities of District YPWW President of the Jasper District, Secretary of the Elders' Council, Chairman of the State Elders' Council, and other capacities in the community. The Lord was still not through with Eld. Johnson. The Presiding Bishop saw fit to appoint Eld. Johnson superintendent of the Jasper District, which later became the Columbus Floyd Smith District. In 2000, New Zion COGIC and Sulligent COGIC merged to become New Jerusalem COGIC under Supt. Johnson's leadership.
Supt. and Sis. Johnson have been married for over thirty years. To this union, two children were born: Terri Mechelle Johnson, who lives in Sulligent and Angela Johnson Walker who lives in Vernon, Alabama with her husband Samuel. "Nanna and Paw Paw", as they are affectionately called, have four grandchildren: Nicholas, Brandon, Kyle, and Patrick. Supt. and Sis. Johnson currently reside in Sulligent, Alabama.
