MISSION STATEMENT
The First Church of God in Christ in Jeanerette, Louisiana-- a Bible teaching, Christ-centered, Spirit-filled church-- exists to continue the mission of Jesus Christ in "seeking and saving" those who are lost by reaching them, teaching them the Bible, and winning them to Christ. It is also incumbent upon the First Church to educate her members in scriptural knowledge so that they will mature and observe to do all those things our Lord has commanded in the Word. Further, the First Church will provide worship to edify and fellowship to socialize its members as she ministers to the whole man--spirit, soul, and body--thus, involving them in the church; developing unity in the Body of Christ; and equipping and conserving members in the service of the Lord Jesus Christ. Finally, as she serves her community, the First Church of God in Christ will assume the role of a community church as she reaches out to the children, youth, and adults through various ministries to improve the quality of life in Jeanerette.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION
Built under the Leadership of Pastor James W. Proctor in 1989, The First Church is situated on four and a half acres of land on one of the main streets in rural Jeanerette, Louisiana. First Church of God in Christ consists of two Geodesic Dome structures. The large dome houses a sanctuary with balcony, pulpit, choir area, and baptistry; the small dome contains a kitchen, a fellowship hall, and a second floor with educational facilities. The Sanctuary seats 400 people. The two Geodesic Domes are connected by an Administrative Complex which contains four offices. First Church is a Full Gospel Church that was founded by the late Elder Fred Lewis in 1937. It is referred to as "Jeanerette Community Church" because of her concern for the community. Christian Education is very important at First Church, because the church grows, and the members are equipped for ministry through Christian Education. The radio ministry, "Abundant Blessings," is used to reach out to the community and promote the work of the church. Through grant programs, the church sponsors a Violence Prevention Program with a strong emphasis on character education and self esteem; an After School Tutorial Program; and a Summer Enrichment Program. These ministries are for everyone in the community, and they are very productive.
