A union of three New Marlborough Congregational churches,
The United Church of New Marlborough is an independent church
committed to a foundation in Scripture and faithful service
to the Southern Berkshire region in the name of Jesus Christ.
Meeting in the 200 year old meeting house on Norfolk Road,
we bring the historic truths of the faith to
contemporary life in a family friendly environment.
A credentialed minister with the Conservative Congregational Christian Conference, Rev. Felker brings a Bible based ministry in a community church setting.
Among our passions are the Great Commission and the Great Commandment,
and we are pleased to support the work of NAE World Relief Corp., Promise Keepers, Hearts of the Father Outreach, and a host of local mission and service enterprises.
If you live in or are visiting Great Barrington or the Southern Berkshire region of Western Massachusetts, we invite you to join us for worship and friendship.
Our Vision & Purpose & Beliefs
Our Vision:
Given the fidelity of our 200 year old history
as a New England Congregational Church in the Puritan tradition,
our warmth as a congregation,
our commitment to God in Jesus Christ,
and our love for our neighbor,...
We are a relating church,
founded on Jesus Christ,
obedient to his Holy Word,
seeking to transform ourselves and our world
through personal devotion, evangelism, and service;
particularly strengthening families, assisting the needy,
serving our community, studying diligently, and worshipping faithfully
toward the goal that all might reverence Jesus Christ
as Lord and Savior
finding in Him present strength and future hope
to the glory of God.
Our Purpose
The purpose of the church is to glorify God:
honoring him directly
and serving in his name
the fellowship of saints
and the human race
through Christian training, Christian outreach, and Christian service.
In the name of Jesus Christ, we the people of The United Church of New Marlborough
will devote ourselves to regular worship:
meeting faithfully
and focusing our heart's affection
and mind's attention
on humbly glorifying God
in response to His person, His word, and His works.
Empowered by the Holy Spirit,
we will train Christians
in the content and doctrine of the Bible;
in the development of personal worship;
in the construct of godly character and lifestyle;
and in the manifesting of the Spirit's indwelling;
exhorting active participation in the congregation of believers;
we will do works of mercy
in accord with our individual and corporate opportunities and gifts;
we will attend to the physical, emotional, and spiritual needs of individuals and groups;
we will be agents of renewal and reconciliation,
committed to the building up of individuals and our community;
we will seek to reach those who are apart from Jesus Christ
with the call to follow Him
to the glory of God
and their own eternal salvation;
we will make ourselves prepared witnesses;
and give our energies and resources to greater cooperative Christian efforts at home and abroad;
and we will proclaim
the ethic of Holy Scripture
and the hope of the Kingdom of God
as we conduct the prophetic witness of the church in the world.
To this we commit ourselves as Christians and as the church.
To God be the glory!
Proclaiming Jesus Christ as its head, and looking both to the Word
of God in the Scriptures and to the presence and power of the Holy
Spirit to preserve its faith, this we declare as our mutual confession:
1. We believe the Bible, consisting of the Old and New Testaments,
to be the only inspired, inerrant, infallible, authoritative Word of
God.
2. We believe that there is one God, the source of all that is right
and true and beautiful, eternally existent in three persons: Father,
Son, and Holy Spirit. The three are coequal in power, coeternal in
existence, and coessential in nature. They are subordinate in
function, the Son deliberately submitting to the will to that of the
Father, and the Spirit deliberately submitting his will to the mutual
will of the Father and the Son, that God might be one.
3. We believe that humanity, in the headship of Adam, fell into sin
and eternal alienation with God, suffering and dying in the
consequences of sin, yet living in the promise of a Redeemer, Jesus
Christ.
4. We believe in the deity of Jesus Christ, in His virgin birth, in His
sinless life, in His miracles, in His vicarious and atoning death
through His shed blood, in His bodily resurrection, in His ascension
to the right hand of the Father, and in His personal return in power
and glory.
5. We believe that repentance of sin and faith in Jesus Christ and
his finished work is essential to being reconciled with God and
entering into the hope of eternal life.
6. We believe in the present ministry of the Holy Spirit through
whom the Church of Jesus Christ prevails in worship and service,
and by Whose indwelling power and fullness the Christian is
regenerated and enabled to live a godly life in this present evil
world.
7. We believe in the bodily resurrection of both the dead: of the
believer to everlasting blessedness and joy with the Lord, and of the
unbeliever to judgment and everlasting punishment.
8. We believe in the spiritual unity of all believers in Christ, the
Lord and Head of each local congregation and of the Church
universal.
We commend to all desiring greater understandings of these beliefs
and their implications the prayerful study of the Savoy Platform
(1658) as a Biblical expression of Congregational faith and life.
